I don’t know about you guys, but when it comes to my travel style, comfort is always my main priority! Since moving to Denver, I have begun traveling a lot more than I ever used to. My husband’s family lives in California, and my family lives in Iowa, so we are constantly traveling back and forth to visit them. My husband also travels quite frequently for work, and I usually tag along with him whenever I can. I think it’s safe to say, we spend a fairly decent amount of our time on airplanes and in airports. Because we travel so much, I feel as though I have finally been able to figure out what works for me when it comes to my travel style. At this point, I’ve pretty much got things down to a science.

For me, the most crucial thing is making sure that I wear enough layers! In my opinion, there is nothing worse than being too hot or too cold when you’re stuck in an enclosed space for multiple hours. I feel like there’s never an in-between or  “just right” temperature on an airplane. Is it just me or do other people experience that too? I seem to always fluctuate between full-on sweating during the boarding process, then I’m freezing cold throughout the entire flight, and then I’m back to being uncomfortably hot as soon as we’ve landed and begun to de-board. For that reason, having multiple layers is an absolute necessity for me.

To start with, I always wear either a tank-top or an ultra-thin tee as my very first layer. You never know when things might become unbearably warm. Over top of that, I like to wear either an easily removable sweater or cardigan – something that doesn’t require me to lift my arms up over my head to pull off. Why? Because, nobody likes to be hit in the face by their seat mate’s elbow. That’s why an open sweater or cardigan is always my go-to second layer. I have linked a couple different knit cardigan options that I really love, at the end of this post. Finally, I like to bring a third jacket or an over-sized scarf (which can double as a blanket) with me. If I get extra-cold (and I usually do), I will have multiple layers to cover up with. Having that extra jacket has come in handy more times than I can count. It’s the absolute worst when you are trying to sleep on an airplane, but can’t because you’re too cold. The option to remove or pile on layers is super important to me when it comes to ensuring maximum comfort on a flight.

My second necessity for traveling in comfort, is wearing comfortable bottoms. I despise wearing shorts when I fly, because, who likes to stick to their seat? I also try to avoid wearing jeans whenever I can. I’ve spent one too many plane rides with the buttons of my jeans digging very uncomfortably into my stomach. And, nobody wants that, right? I have since graduated from traveling in too tight jeans, to traveling in either leggings or joggers instead. I know it’s not always possible to fly in sweats, though. If you are arriving to the airport straight from work, sweatpants aren’t really an option. Anytime that I have the luxury of being able to dress comfortably though, I will! Joggers are usually my go-to bottoms of choice. They seem to keep me a bit warmer than leggings do, but either is preferred over jeans! I’ve linked a few of my favorite jogger options in the “Shop The Post’ widget below.

Next, I have recently discovered, (and have totally fallen in love with), matching sweatsuit sets. When it comes to comfortable clothing, they are truly the best in their class. I just purchased this matching cream sweatsuit set from Nasty Gal a few weeks ago, and I am absolutely obsessed with it. Not only is it incredibly cozy, but it’s super cute and stylish as well. I will most definitely be investing in more of these jogger-sweatshirt sets very soon. They make for the perfect airplane get-up, and they might just be my new fave travel outfit option of all. Once again, you can find the sweatsuit set that I’m wearing in the photo below, as well as a few other options, at the end of this post.

In addition to ensuring that I am comfortable when I fly, convenience is equally important to me. For that reason, where footwear is involved, I prefer shoes that are easy to slip on and off without difficulty. I tend to find the whole process of going through security one of the most stressful activities involved in travel. Everyone always seems so confused about what they’re supposed to take off/leave on and how they’re supposed to properly arrange their items to go through the screening belt. And somehow, I always seem to get stuck behind the guy who forgot to take his wallet out of his pocket, even though the security guard was screaming “empty all your pockets” for the last 15 minutes. Okay, sorry, rant over. Suffice it to say, I prefer to get through the security checkpoint as quickly as possible. For me, being able to slide my shoes off and on in under two seconds is a convenience that I prefer to not do without.

Traveling in comfortable shoes that conveniently slip on and off isn’t just beneficial for screening checkpoints, though. It also comes in handy once you’re on the airplane itself. I don’t know why, but I can never seem to get as comfortable when my shoes are on as when they’re off. I always take my shoes off when I fly. If I hit the ‘airplane lottery’ and end up with an extra seat next to me, I love being able to slide my shoes off, curl my feet up underneath me and get extra cozy. If you’ve ever attempted to do that wearing bulky shoes, I’m sure that you’ll agree, it doesn’t quite seem to do the trick. As is obvious, from the various photos in this post, I prefer to travel in my white quilted slip-on tennies. They are my absolute favorite shoe to travel in. I purchased them from Shein a while ago for a very affordable price, and I couldn’t believe how comfortable they turned out to be! They are pretty much the only shoe that I wear when I travel now. I’ve linked them below, and have also included the more expensive Steve Madden look-alike.

Lastly, I never travel without either my black Tory Burch bag, or my pink Michael Kors tote. Both are large enough to accommodate all of the things that I want easy access to once I’m up in the air, and yet, aren’t so large (or deep) that every item seems to get lost inside of them. I can easily access larger items, like my laptop, makeup bag, water bottle, snacks, etc., without having to dig around in a bottomless pit for five minutes to locate things. Smaller items, like my earbuds, phone, passport, charger, etc., can be safely placed in any of the various, zipper-less pockets on either the insides or outsides of the bag(s). Again, this allows for extremely easy access to, and simultaneously, safe-keeping of any smaller items that I might need. There’s no messing with unzipping or feeling around your bag for hours involved here. Want my advice? Get yourself a tote bag without zippers, that’s similar in size (and depth) to the two that I’ve shown in this post. Both are linked below. You can thank me later.

And there you have it! Those are my traveling outfit essentials (‘aka’ my travel style) in a nutshell! After much trial and error,  I can finally say that I’ve figured out a winning combination of gear necessary for ensuring the most stylishly comfortable, stress-free, and convenient traveling experience possible. Why should we have to choose just style, comfort, or convenience over another, when we can have all three?! Again, everything that I am wearing in this post is linked in the scrolling carousal below, along with a few similar options that would work great as well! Thanks for reading!
